ANNUAL EVENTS:
ASH WEDNESDAY – February 17, 2010 – 7:00 pm
We cannot be raised to a new life with Christ on Easter unless we first die to our old selves. Ash Wednesday is the first step on that journey. A cross of ashes is placed on the forehead as a sign of our humanity and a reminder of our mortality. This is a quiet service of contemplation and reflection.
MAUNDY THURSDAY – April 1, 2010 – 7:00 pm
On this night we remember and celebrate the final supper Jesus shared with his disciples. In a solemn service of worship we remember the events of Jesus’ last days, ending with chancel draped in black and the congregation going out into the darkness to await the coming of Easter.
EASTER SUNDAY – April 4, 2010 – 9:45 am and 11:00 am
With greetings of “He is risen!” we meet for fellowship and food at 9:45 am. Members and friends share a potluck Easter brunch of favorite pastries, fruits and breakfast casseroles. Worship begins at 11:00 am with the undraping of the chancel and songs of “Alleluia!” as we acclaim the resurrection of Christ by the power of God.
HOLY HUMOR SUNDAY – April 11, 2010 – 11:00 am
A new tradition for Corinth, Holy Humor Sunday has ancient roots. It finds its basis in the idea that God played a practical joke on the devil by raising Jesus from the dead. It is an opportunity for the faith community to joke, sing and celebrate the joy of the resurrection and the fact that Jesus is the LIFE of the party! Come prepared to laugh!
CORINTH ANNIVERSARY – August 8, 2010 – 11:00 am
A long standing tradition at Corinth has been to celebrate the founding of the congregation by singing old time hymns and sharing gallons of homemade ice cream. We will celebrate our 163rd birthday this year.
KIRKIN' O' THE TARTAN – November 7, 2010 – 11:00 am
On November 7, 2010, we will celebrate a Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan, a festive remembrance of our Scottish roots and a solemn remembrance of those who have passed on to life eternal in the past year. The service begins with the posting of the tartan banners and the blessing of the tartans. We will also come together around the table of our Lord and share the meal Christ instituted. Then we will move aside some pews and dance to the skirl of the bagpipes while we share some traditional Scottish foods. All are encouraged (but not required) to wear a kilt or other tartan attire. You don’t have to be Scottish to enjoy this exuberant Sunday.
CHURCH THANKSGIVING – November 18, 2010 – 7:00 pm
Since Thanksgiving was made an official holiday, Corinth has celebrated with a festive meal the Thursday before the official Thanksgiving. It is a grand event to which we welcome all our neighbors and friends.
CHRISTMAS EVE – December 24, 2010 – 7:00 pm
This candlelight service is one of the most memorable of the year. Following the service of carol singing and communion, we take our candles out into the night to await the coming of the Christ child.
STORYTELLER SUNDAY – December 26, 2010 – 9:45 am and 11:00 am
Since 1984, internationally known storyteller Elizabeth Ellis has shared some of her stories with us as our “last, best Christmas gift” on the first Sunday following Christmas. We begin the morning with a potluck brunch at 9:45 am which also gives us a chance to wear our favorite Christmas sweaters.
